Feeling Bloated? These Foods Help, According to Nutrition Experts

Diversify your plate with these nutritious picks and say goodbye to post-dinner discomfort. When your belly is distended and hard—whether it’s that time of the month or you overindulged at dinner—the last thing you want to do is eat more. But there are, believe it or not, some foods that help ease bloating, according to experts and research. Meet the Experts: Marissa West, ACE-certified personal trainer and nutrition specialist and founder of West Kept Secret, Cindy Kasindorf, certified nutritional health counselor and founder of Remedy Organics, and Melissa Prest, D.C.N., R.D.N., spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. “Bloating can be caused by consuming foods that produce more gas than others, contain a high salt content, eating or drinking too quickly, or consuming carbonated drinks,” explains Marissa West, ACE-certified personal trainer and nutrition specialist and founder of West Kept Secret. “It can also be caused by a lactose intolerance, dairy aversion, or another health condition, such as irritable bowel syndrome or celiac disease.” Depending on the cause of your bloat, certain foods can help you get relief by reducing inflammation, activating the release of digestive enzymes, or coaxing the bloat through your digestive tract with water and fiber. Check out the below options and keep them at the ready for the next time discomfort strikes.

Angry wife trows frying pan at her husband for coming home drunk

A furious wife threw a frying pan at her husband when he returned home drunk from watching football. Mek Intapan, 49, had been watching Romania vs Netherlands on Tuesday evening when he received an angry message from his partner, Nai, ordering him to get back and help her. The vegetable stall owner left after the first half and trudged over to his house in Bangkok, Thailand, where his partner was waiting for him. Unable to contain her rage, she whacked him with a wok shortly before midnight. A concerned neighbour called paramedics who found Mek with a wound on his head outside his home on he city's Soi Suk Sawat 26. They provided him with first aid before transporting him to IMH Thonburi Hospital. Mek explained briefly that his wife threw a pan at him because he was drunk. He said: 'I was drinking in the afternoon then had a sleep. I woke up to watch football with some of the other men. Then my wife told me to go home, so I followed her orders. I don't know why she was so angry at me.' The ambulance crew stitched the 20cm long wound on Mek's forehead and wrapped a bandage around his head. They asked him if he wanted to make a police report but he declined and was taken to hospital to be checked over. Hi wife, Nai, said: 'My husband was too drunk to be outside. I had been working all evening and he didn't even offer to help. I was so angry when he started drinking again. I complained and it escalated into an argument. 'I threw a pan in his direction but I didn't mean to hit him. 'This had made me even more stressed. I'll close the shop and visit him in the hospital.'
